Hayley is the daughter of “Miss Kerry” and has been dancing since the opening of Gotta Dance Studio in 1993 at the age of 2. She attended the University of New Hampshire where she was a member of Sisters in Step, a hip hop/step team and graduated with a major in psychology and minor in dance. She recently earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at Boston College and currently works at The Home for Little Wanderers while continuing to teach at Gotta Dance Studio. She is extremely grateful to Miss Sharon for continuing her mother’s dream and to have the opportunity to teach and choreograph for the Gotta Dance Studio! She continues to be inspired by her wonderful colleagues and amazing students!
Ellen joined the Gotta Dance faculty in 2010 as the Modern Dance teacher, at the request of studio founder Kerry Youngstrom. Ellen took to dance at an early age when she and her mother (who tapped into her 80’s) choreographed a dance to the theme song of the Perry Mason show. Soon after, she was enrolled in Hedi Pope’s dance classes in Alexandria, Virginia, where Mrs. Pope sometimes “terrified” her but has remained a life-long mentor and friend. Ellen has been dancing ever since and feels strongly that “we were all born dancing,” though some of us have forgotten that or have come to feel too self-conscious to get out on the dance floor. Ellen has studied with renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher Jeannette Neill of Boston for more than 30 years; also taking classes with Danny Sloan, Adrienne Hawkins, Consuelo Baraka and Jim Viera, as well as Polly Feinberg of Dance Forever in Braintree. She’s hooked. After teaching Modern Dance to teens for five years at Gotta Dance (where one of her students dubbed her style “YogaModern” because of her emphasis on breathing), Ellen now teaches a Jazz/Modern Dance class for adults every Wednesday morning at the studio. Ellen also teaches periodic workshops in Let Your Yoga Dance (formerly called YogaDance) at Hope Floats in Kingston, MA. Ellen is a certified Let Your Yoga Dance instructor trained at Kripalu.
